Thinking critically

16. Much discussion has focused on the need to drive more efficent cars and use less electricity if the law of conservation of energy is true. why are people concerned about energy usage ?
The problem is that the original form of energy (gasoline) is now mechanical energy and is not reusable when you used once.

17. If heat flows in only one direction, how can both hot and cold liquids reach room temperature as they sit on a table?
They both reach the average temperature of the room where they are ex: In a cold room the cold liquid stays cold and the hot one colds.

18. Think about what happens to jack and jill in the nursery room. what kinds of energy are used? how was each energy form used?

  • If they are walking they are using kinetic energy (The one that use movement)
  • If they are sitting down they are using potential energy (The one that is stored)

19. compare the 3 temperature scales you learned about. how are they different? how are they similar?

  •  Celsius based on 0°                   Similar :They are all based off the freezing and boiling points.
  •  Kelvin used by scientists         Differ: They use different scales.
  •  Fahrenheit

20. use what you know about the movement of thermal energy to explain why you would place a minor burn on your arm under cool, running water.
Heat is transfer to the coolest object ?

DEVELOPING SKILLS

When you are jumping on a trampoline you have kinetic and potential energy, highest kinetic energy is present when you are moving in the air up and down.
When you are in the highest point of the jump you have the most potential energy present,Then in the middle of the jump u have the highest kinetic energy.
Back in the bottom of the trampoline you have the máximum potential energy because of the dampers.
